Power Beads, Boy Bands and Capri Sun

Ah the 90's!
What a great decade to grow up in!
As children of the 90's would agree,
we had the best of everything!
From TV shows, hair styles and the creation of pop music!

I woke up particularly early this morning...8 o'clock to be exact,
and tried to fall back asleep with no luck!
I turned on my TV only to find that there was NOTHING on,
until I stumbled upon Little House on the Prairie.
This used to be my favorite show growing up!
Mom would set the iron up in the living room
and I would hang/fold laudry while we watched Laura and the Ingalls family
face many trials on Americas new frontier.

And so I thought I would give all you 90's kids
a look back at all our favorites from childhood!

Oh ah a a a this is all that, this is all that...

Mouseketeer to Pop Princess

Everyone knows Pacific Cooler was and still is the best flavor

Handsdown the best show of the 90's

Old school Silly Bandz

Forget iPhones!
We had virtual pets on keychains!

Let's just pray the next generation doesn't take advantage
of what we created before them!

Peace out!
Going to study and balance my checkbook...
you know grown up stuff!

All My Single Ladies

Engagement season is in full swing
and I wanted to give some encouragement
to all of us single gals out there!
This is one of three worst times of the year to be a single lady.
#1 Wedding Season
#2 Valentine’s Day
#3 Engagement Season
I call it engagement season because most college girls
get engaged their Spring semester of Senior year.
So yes, it is literally engagement season!

Now there are two types of single girls to examine:
#1 The Resentful Singlette*
*First, I totally made that word up and it is awesome so deal with it!
This single lady, hates being a single lady!
She is always out on the prowl looking for any
gentleman to give her the time of day!
In college to get her MRS. degree,
the resentful singlette over analyzes everything
and will never be content until
her knight in shining armour
puts a ring on it!

#2 The B***H (gotta keep it PG)
AKA Yours truly.
Self confidence and a strong personality helps
this single lady enjoy life
and avoid the overwhelming feeling
that she must have a man.
She stays true to the philosophy
that someday her prince will come,
and playing the waiting game is not so bad.
No having to put your plans on hold when he calls,
making sure to shave your legs all the time,
or worrying about another person,
are just a few perks the B***H enjoys everyday.
Sure he may be just around the corner,
but until he finds his way
she can rest easy knowing it is out of her hands!

Alright so what does God think about this?
Well, He probably laughs at the fact that we as humans
are so concerned with "pairing up"!
Ultimately, God has the perfect plan for our lives,
whether that includes a mate or not!
Hopefully this can bring peace to all the single ladies out there.
Trust God and allow Him to use you for His purpose,
this is the only way to be fulfilled here on earth!

Ok I am done talking about relationships for a while!
Me and Catherine are about to go try a new cupcake shop in town!

God has given us a gorgeous day,
go enjoy it!

It's the Mardi Gras Season

Today when I checked my mailbox
there was a little slip of paper
saying I had a package at the local post office.
I went to pick it up and the lady brought out this huge box
covered in purple, green and gold mask confetti!
The lady thought something was broken inside
so she told me to open it right there,
so I did and inside were Moon Pies!
My daddy is a Shadow Baron (a Mardi Gras Krewe)
and he sent me footballs, cups and beads
all with the Shadow Barons logo!
He also sent me tickets to their Mardi Gras Ball!
It was the best surprise ever!
So now I am super pumped for Mardi Gras to get here!!!

It is so neat to have a holiday that is specific to our area of the country!
I cannot imagine Febuary and March without Moon Pies, beads, parades and King Cake!
So, yay for Mardi Gras!

Tomorrow is finally Friday!
I have no plans for the weekend,
which is exactly how I want it!

Let the good times roll!

Now is That A Want or A Need?

My mom would always ask us this question when we
were at the grocery store or any type of store really.
Then she would define both:
Need - food, water, shelter and clothes that you don't have and are useful
Want - something you don't need

Even though I usually hated hearing this from my mom
when I REALLY wanted something,
looking back she taught me a very important life lesson.
Don't get me wrong,
my parents defiantly spoiled my sister and I,
but they never let us take what we had for granted.

So I thought I would share some of my wants and needs right now!

Beautiful Cabinet!

It's been over a week since my last City Cafe visit and that has GOT to be fixed!

Just might give into the hype and get me an iPhone...we will see!

Obsessed with this Fossil watch! Total want for sure!

Another obsession...mom says I have to finish college before I can get any of the seasons...

What I really NEED are not material things though,
I am so blessed to have a roof over my head, food in my pantry and clothes on my back!
My needs right now would be

Faith
Perseverance
Peace
Hope
Dedication
I also need for the boys above my apartment to quit doing sprints across
their living room
and stop vacuuming at 2 o'clock in the morning!

Happy Wednesday!

Count Your Blessings

On a cold, rainy day like today,
I always thank God for the many material blessings He has given me.
I woke up this morning in my warm king size bed covered in blankets,
in my heated apartment,
made a cup of hot coffee,
took a heavenly long steamy shower,
put on a cozy sweatshirt
and blasted the heat in my own car.

This always reminds me about my favorite childhood
Bible song Count Your Blessings
and when I searched for the lyrics I found a full song
that I had never heard but I thought the words were great!

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
*Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
[*And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.]

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.

When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings—wealth can never buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

And remeber,
we are too blessed to be stressed!

Southern Belles Unite!

Chivalry is a word we as southerners hear a lot.
But what does it really mean to be a chivalrous gentleman?

Last night after hanging out with some friends at a local pub
and being pushed around and cut in front of by some less than polite guys,
I began to think about why women want a gentleman,
and why some guys are not our perfect knight in shining armour.

First every girls dream is to be a princess.
We all want the fairytale story, wedding and the happily ever after.
This desire is put into our heads since we were little and it is no surprise so many people
end up unsatisfied after the honeymoon stages are over!
But I believe even though women long for a fairytale, all we want is a little respect.

I absolutely love when a guy holds a door for me.
Trying to make my way through the crowds last night at the bar,
I was surprised how few guys let me by, I literally had to push through
and yell excuse me (I guess I am too polite).

Anyways, guys if you want to get a girl you have got to treat her right!
Even if you don't want her, at least extend the courtesy and be the gentleman your mother raised you to be!
And ladies, do not let your man or any other guy walk all over you!
We may be soft and sweet but you have to give respect in order to receive it
and the door swings both ways!

How many frogs do we have to kiss til we find our Prince Charming?

Ok, I'm done ranting!
Enjoy the weekend!

Sisters By Chance

Friends because Mom said so!
In many families, the siblings don't usually get along.
That is SO not the case between me and my little sister!
My mom always made sure we got along and she challenged me to be the big sister
and love Lindsey no matter how annoying she could be!
Lu, as my family calls her, is my only sister and I want our relationship to be the best
it can be!
Although we are six years apart, I feel like that difference has made our relationship stronger
and given us the chance to become friends.
I am so thankful that my mom made it a point to encourage us to love each
other despite our differences and disagreements.
I believe that Lindsey and I will have a great relationship as we grow older
and I am so excited to see what our futures hold!
I love you Lulu!

I thought I would share some pictures of us through the years!
Enjoy!

Beach day!

I have no idea...

Moving into the dorms at Alabama!

Strawberry festival!

Mama's 50th Birthday party in Tuscaloosa

Christmas 2007 (I think)

Playing dress up back in the day!

Sisterly love!

Go love on your siblings, or parents if you are an only child,
Family is family forever!

Lazy Saturday

I have been the biggest bum today!
I did however jazz up my blog!
I hope y'all like it!

The Comcast guy came out and fixed my DVR!
YAY!
The only bad thing is we lost all of our previously recorded shows,
but I'm sure it will be full again in no time!

I played around on my blog design and watched some TV
then my long lost BFF Catherine came over
and we went to eat at Logan's Steak House.
Oh my goodness, their yeast rolls are to die for and their sweet was very refreshing!
No so great for someone who needs to watch what they eat
(cough cough ME!)!

We had fun just chatting and enjoying each others company!
God has blessed me so much with the most amazing friends
and I am so thankful to have Cat in my life!
After we stuffed ourselves,
we came back to my apartment and watched the Miss America pageant.
Let me just tell you how awesome we felt laying on the couch after
eating a full meal and watching these girls strut around in
bikinis like it was nothing...haha NOT!

I may not be a Miss America contender but I am happy with who I am
and that is all that matters!
Tomorrow is my second shift at the Wintzell's here in Tuscaloosa.
Thursday's shift was difficult because they do things SO much differently then
the Fairhope store!
It will just take some getting used too I know,
I'm a quick learner so hopefully it won't take that long!

Well I am off to bed!

Generation Y

My DVR isn't working and let's just say I am not a happy camper!
Not being able to watch Law and Order: SVU on my day off is depressing
and losing all of my previously recorded shows makes me a little angry!

After calling Comcast and being put on hold TWICE for almost ten minutes
I thought I was going to snap!
Finally I got to talk to someone and they couldn't fix it over the phone,
so someone is having to come out and fix it...GREAT!

So after I calmed down a bit, I began to think about how silly my frustrations were.
Our generation has become so impatient and spoiled by the technology we have today
and it makes me sad that I got so upset that quickly about TV!
I remember the days before computers and DVR,
when I would read for hours and play outside!

Last semester I had Taylor change my Facebook password and I cannot tell you
how productive I was!
It is crazy the amount of time people spend on the internet!
I know I have already made two resolutions, but I am going to make one more!
I am going to cut down on my internet time so I am going to get Taylor to change my Facebook
password again and only use web when I have school work or to update my blog
(I love to write and share my thoughts so I won't deprive y'all)!

Enjoy the three day weekend!
Stay sweet!

Lineage of Grace

Everyone is familiar with the men of the Bible,
but there are such great stories about women as well.
Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers is my new favorite book!
She tells the stories of five women from the line of David which lead to the birth of Jesus.
The women in these stories show such great faith in their circumstances
and I pray that I will be able to have the kind of faith they had.
Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Mary were all normal average women who
displayed great amounts of faith and God used them to bring forth
the Messiah!

I highly recommend this book to everyone!
Francine Rivers is such an amazing writer,
I have not found a book of hers that I have not loved!

Spring semester is off to good start, my classes do not begin until tomorrow!
I finally got to sleep in today after having to wake up all break for work!

Hope everyone is staying warm in this freezing weather!

Stay sweet!

Resolution Time

So I know I already made a resolution, but I have some stuff to add.
These past couple of weeks with the family have been eye opening
and I am so thankful to have such God fearing influences in my life.
After some difficult personal decisions, I am becoming more and more content
with God's plans for my life.

My resolution for 2011 is to be able to answer this question every night before I go to bed:
Have I glorified God with my actions, words and thoughts?

I know that this might be impossible and I am not going to beat myself
up if I can't say yes every night because I am a sinner and I am not perfect!

I will be heading back to Tuscaloosa either tomorrow or Tuesday depending on the weather!
Hopefully there won't be any snow again cause I'm tired of missing the snow!
I am so ready to get back to my bed and all my stuff! I am the worst packer ever! I forgot a bunch of my stuff!

Beautiful snow!

Hope everyone had a great break!
Can't wait to be reunited with my friends!
Stay sweet!
